At Honey Tree Childcare Center (HTCC) we believe that children learn best in an environment that promotes learning. This environment is more than the obvious physical surroundings at school. The materials are age and developmentally appropriate and accessible to the children. The children’s learning environment include warm, loving, nurturing adults to care for them. Open teacher - child and teacher - parent relationships are crucial to children’s learning. It is important for children to be given the opportunity to physically explore and experiment with their surroundings, Make choices for themselves and learn through self exploration. We believe this approach gives the children the best opportunity to develop a positive self image and a continued love of learning.
We use the development al approach. At HTCC we plan activities that are designed to appeal to and challenge the broad range of skills that children have.
We seek to develop:
intellectual curiosity, socialization with peers and adults, communication of ideas, thoughts and feelings, small and large motor skills, imaginative and independent play.
“ Play is essential for young children to learn….. Children learn cooperation, problem solving, language, mathematics, develop curiosity, self esteem, strength, coordination, self direction and values when we enrich their play” (NAEYC)
It is our goal at HTCC to provide this learning environment while keeping the health and safety of the children in mind. This type of environment helps build a positive self image in children and we feel this the MOST important lesson a child can learn. A positive self image stays with a child for life and this alone can help them though some of life’s hardest choices and lessons.
We reinforce a child’s learn each day by:
1. Encouraging and praising positive behavior
2. Listening to what each child is saying a responding appropriately
3. Use positive, rather than negative language
4. Assist each child to master new skills and refine old skills
5. Aid in developing a positive self image thought positive thinking
and reinforcement
6. Being honest with each child.
7. Encouraging optimal growth of each child
8. Encouraging natural curiosity and challenging their capacities at
their own level of interest and knowledge
